Templar Poetry is launching David Gilbert's short pamphlet of poems, Liberian Pygmy Hippopotamus on Friday November 4th at 7pm, at the Betsey Trotwood, near Farringdon.
 
This pamphlet was one of the winners of the Iota Shot Short Pamphlet Competition in 2011.

 
 
 
 
 
Along with David, there will be performances from Robert Vas Dias and Angela Cleland.

David Gilbert is a born and bred Londoner, working in the NHS. Liberian Pygmy Hippopotamus (winner of the Iota Shot, short pamphlet competition by Templar) is his first published collection. He has also had poems in the recent Prose Poetry Collection, This Line is Not for Turning (Monson, ed. Cinnamon Press) and in a few other magazines. He supports Leeds Utd and is a former mental health service user.

Angela Cleland was born and grew up in Scotland. She completed a degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Glasgow and later studied Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths College London. In 2007, Angela won the Templar Poetry Pamphlet and Collection Award resulting in the publication of her pamphlet Waiting to Burn and her collection And in Here, the Menagerie. She currently lives in Surrey with her husband and baby son and is working on her second collection in between readings of 'That's not my Penguin'.

Robert Vas Dias, an Anglo-American born and now resident in London , has published nine collections in the UK and USA , the latest of which is Still · Life and Other Poems of Art and Artifice (Shearsman, 2010). Leaping Down to Earth appeared in 2008, with images by the British artists Stephen Chambers and Tom Hammick; his long poem The Lascaux Variations, with images by John Wright, was published in 2009. His poetry and criticism has appeared in about 100 magazines, journals, and anthologies in both countries. A festschrift, Entailing Happiness, with contributions by 35 poets and writers, appeared earlier this year. He is a core tutor with The Poetry School in London .
