Audio Narration and Production

I began taking on audiobook narration projects in 2021. I have years of experience reading for audiences both from the page and from memory through live poetry performance and amateur theatre. Coupled with production experience gained through recording my own music and vocals, this has given me a great grounding for the shift into audio narration.

Being a practising writer gives me a great feel for language and appreciation for the importance of understanding the text I'm narrating - whether that means having a thorough grasp of the narrative arc and character development in fiction, or getting to grips with important terminology and becoming a convincing instant expert in a non-fiction subject area.

If you'd have a project you'd like me to get involved with, please contact me directly.

Falling Dark by Tom Lloyd

It’s the find of a lifetime - an ancient alien spaceship, hanging in a forgotten corner of space. For Song, this could change everything. She’s got as many problems with her finances as she does in her marriage - but maybe, at last, her passion for wreck-diving will pay off. One piece of unknown tech could set her whole crew up for life...

About recording Falling Dark

Falling Dark is written in the first person, which essentially meant that while I was recording the book, I was able to class sitting in my basement pretending to be a space captain as "work". Tom Lloyd's prose was a joy to narrate and being Song - living her adventure and her emotional journey - was a deeply rewarding experience for me.

The Pure Heart by Trudie Tweedie

When Iseabail is employed by a wealthy merchant to be his daughter's companion, her life changes forever. Transported from her remote island home to the Scottish borderlands, Iseabail is unnerved both by her precocious young charge and the house's secrets: a hidden chapel, servants who speak in a foreign tongue, a mute stableboy. And then the merchant returns with a mysterious cargo. Why has Iseabail really been summoned here? And will she ever make it back home?

About recording The Pure Heart

I am incredibly excited to have been given the opportunity to record the audiobook of Trudie Tweedie's The Pure Heart, not least because it is a winner of the Times/Chicken House Children's Fiction Competition.

As soon as I read the audition script for The Pure Heart, I knew I wanted to record it. Trudie Tweedie's beautiful writing and dark imagination are right up my street and while marketed to a YA audience, I'd cheerfully recommend this book to any lovers of fantasy with a dark gothic fairy tale flavour.

As with Falling Dark, this book takes the reader on an emotional ride and it was great fun making sure that the audiobook does the same.
